Yesterday, some guys of GNOME Peru presented some jobs we did for GNOME in the university “Universidad Inca Garcilaso de la Vega” in Lima . We encourage more students get involved as a volunteers for development and documentation topics, we also pointed other tasks like designing and testing. I also have the opportunity to met two great guys that work from provinces in Peru: Sergio Infante who is an older contributor for GNOME, he is doing some open source projects from “Huancayo”, province of Peru; and Rudy Godoy, who participated in Google Code Jam last year and he is working and leading projects using Free Software from “Arequipa”, another province in Peru.
Diego Escalante, contributor since 2006, introduced the concepts and opportunities you got participating in project of global impact. Projects to to add plugins for LibreOffice were mentioned, also projects for Accessibility like “Orca”.
Francisco José Quiñones, advanced GNOME user since 2003, shared some experiences and presented the design of GNOME 3 and some characteristics of GNOME 3.2.
Cesar Fabian Orccon is a young guy (17 years old), he is member of LinuxIDES in PUCP and also is a new member for GNOME Peru (2011). He designed a draft of the event we prepare:
We are going to invite to the party of the release of GNOME 3.2 all students in our university, other universities in Lima, Perú. Other communities of Free Software also will be our guests, we planned to install in laptops and desktops GNOME 3.2 using Ubuntu or Fedora.
