You have it, but don’t use it

Everyday we use a serious combination of keys
like CTRL+C to copy, CTRL+V to paste, 
CTRL+ALT+SUP to turn the machine off/ to change 
the session user, ALT+TAB to swith windows, 
ALT+PRINTSCR to windows sreenshoots[0]
There are multiple other key-commands we have 
in our dear keyboard through F1 to F12 keys, 
how many times did we press them? 
You might say: well... for all of them, the most useful and known 
is the F5 key and I press it 5-8 times a day ... depending on the 
use and application of Internet connectivity.
In this context, we normally forget that we have a powerful friend,
which can avoid us a bunch of wasted googling minutes or many other 
ones reading forums without resolution of the topic..
so, what is all these about?..
well, my intention here is to introduce you to the F1 key

-> Almost always used as the help key, almost 
every program will open the help screen 
when this key is pressed.
-> Enter CMOS Setup.
-> Also on Windows, the Windows keyboard +F1
would open help and support center.
-> Open the Task Pane. 

But, why so many people don't use F1, even when they yell
for 'Help' to know how to use an especific application...
maybe they don't get use to, or maybe they forget its existence
As my friend says: I don't like to read manuals!, even worse the
TV manual... other opinion I received was about the "intuitive
software": Does Facebook have any manual for users or companies?

They are so right! the software has to be very intuitive to do 
what "I have to do" in specific application; but what happens 
if we have a lot of functions in the software like Autocad, 
softwares for Office purpose, they all have many different 
particular features...
In total, I want to encourage or at least make you remember that F1
key can give you a lot of knowledge if you allow it.
In distros of Linux, F1 is available for most of all their 
applications and the specific case of Gnome Documentation Team, 
we are working to completeall of all the aplications tools and all
the necessary options to search andfind you want to.
As a example I could show the Empathy tool, which integrates Google 
Mail, Facebook, MSN, IRC, and more to get all your contacts in only 
one click. It allows also messages,videos and transfer files in 
many languages and diferent operative systems. [3]

    Well with F5 I know that it just works 🙂 while with F1 I usually have to wait half a minute to get some useless topics – no offense meant, but off the top of my head I cannot remember any application at all (in Gnome, KDE, Windows…) which has useful help.

    The new Gnome approach to list problems and solutions, rather than giving a long “reference manual”, looks promising. But then again most of the tasks shown in your screenshot should indeed be discoverable without reading help.

    Anyway, maybe you should have a look at the questions asked on the net (like at and consider adding those to the offline help file 🙂

    And then there’s the number of businesses who have a facebook page as a person…evidence that they didn’t RTFM. Facebook does have a manual, by the way.

      I’ve been asking my friends about their opinions and feelings related to manuals… one of them pointed Facebook as example of software that she uses everyday without reading “help manuals”… I’m feeling guilty of writing her appreciation as a fact… Anyway, thanks for your comment and time to read the post
